Irma relief
On September 8th, Hurricane Irma made landfall in Cuba as a category 5 storm, the largest storm to hit Cuba over the last 85 years. Join us to help the Cuban people rebuild their communities; we’ll mobilize a network committed to engagement, cooperation, and mutual understanding.
The Trip
Helping the Cuban people begins with us. Join CubaOne and Give2Cuba on a hurricane relief trip. We’ll spend five days in Cuba helping out the communities most in need of cleanup and rebuilding. We’ll visit the cities most affected by Hurricane Irma across 3 provinces (Ciego de Avila, Sancti Spiritus and Santa Clara). Together, we can build a brighter future. Participants will be working alongside the Cuban people helping with the most pressing relief efforts. We’ll work with local organizations and leaders to create the greatest impact.
- Dates — October 25-30
- Accommodation — We’ll stay in casa particulares; we’ll be directly supporting the Cuban people and have an opportunity to get to know and help our Cuban hosts.
- Costs — Each traveler will agree to fund their trip and donations to Hurricane Irma relief by fundraising $1,500 through Crowdrise. This will provide a significant donation to charity relief efforts and cover the costs of roundtrip airfare to Cuba, People-to-People visa, mandatory health insurance, one checked bag of hurricane relief supplies, and accommodation in a casa particular.
- Supplies — In addition to helping once we’re on the ground, we’ll be bringing supplies. We ask that each participant bring a checked bag with supplies to distribute during the trip. Here’s a list of the critical items the Cuban people need most: http://marimundo.com/critical-items-to-gift-or-donate-to-cubans/
- We’ll make the process easy — We’ll provide participants with a toolkit and successful model to crowdfund the costs of their trip. They can raise funds individually or as teams, and any additional funds that are raised will be donated to charities supporting the Cuban people.
- Eligibility/Criteria — This trip is open to anyone and everyone who wants to help. All we ask is participants fundraise $1,500, pack a bag of supplies, and are ready to get to work helping the Cuban people. Participants can sign up online at cubaone.org/irma-relief and we’ll be in touch quickly to get things moving
